The Craft Scotland Conference is an annual event which invites the Craft sector in Scotland and further afield to get together to network, learn and inspire. I have the pleasure of curating this years conference which will take place in Glasgow at the GSA on 2nd October.
Whilst there is not a single theme to the day as such, a recurring topic of the conference is practice models, in particular looking at the journey and the diversity of a practice. The opportunity to live the romantic life of the studio crafts person is not as possible or perhaps desirable in this day and age, meaning that designers/makers have adapted and diversified their practice, creating multifaceted careers that take them in all kinds of directions.
The link between the speakers is this adaptability and the interesting work they make, but also the practice that they have built up around their objects.
Speakers: Michael Marriot, Linda Brothwell, Love Jonsson, Deirdre Nelson, Jasleen Kaur, Hefin Jones, Neil McGuire, Jude Barber.
